The Handmade and Creative Market is a large, curated art and craft fair.
My name is Charlotte. I am a part time teacher full time market organiser and part time maker. My main craft is leather work, using plain vegetable tan leather to create a range of hand dyed and saddle stitched products, mostly for dogs. As the market is so demanding on my time I tend to make smaller jewellery items from my off cuts more than larger pieces at the moment. I plan to return to working on my leather craft business in 2020.
I started the Handmade and Creative Market as Norwich Creative Market early in 2018. At The Handmade and Creative Market my aim has always been to support small businesses on their journey to success. My aim is to provide a friendly, well organised platform from which artists and makers can share their talents with a wider audience. I am a solo entrepreneur running these fantastic events at the lowest possible cost to our makers. I feel it is important to recognise how hard it is for small businesses to break into a market flooded with mass produced goods and I am passionate about providing ways in which they can do so.
In one year it grew from just over 30 stalls in Blackfriars' Hall to a huge 97 stalls in St Andrews Hall for Christmas of the same year. In 2019 I am running the St. Andrews Hall events approximately bi-monthly with 60-100 stalls, dependant on the time of year. For 2020 I am looking to expand the market outside Norwich to venues in the surrounding East Anglia area. Hence the Handmade and Creative Market was born. The first Handmade and Creative Market in a new venue will be held at the Norfolk Showground Arena this September, almost doubling our stall capacity and opening up the event to create a wider art and craft experience.
